The MI Welcomes the M'punzu Trio - Coming in June!

As part of our vision of "partnering to transform people and their communities toward the image of Christ," the MI is committed to fostering a mutual exchange of spiritual gifts and worship experiences with our brothers and sisters in Mozambique. Given this year's theme at the upcoming Missouri Annual Conference of "passionate worship", we have invited the M'punzu Trio to join us by taking a key role in leading worship and teaching us about expressions of worship from Mozambique. We believe that the trio will help to foster this transformative exchange as we learn from one another.

The word "M'punzu" is a Mozambican traditional instrument similar to a trumpet, which is used for calling people for adoration and joyful worship. The meaning of the word itself refers to the announcement of a new day, rebirth, hope, and joy.

The M'punzu Trio is Joel Mauele on guitar/vocals, Renaldo Cardoso on bass, and Valdemar Gimo on drums.

Listen Now - Makhofu

This song is about the fight that Mozambican woman endure for the lives of their families as they struggle to feed their children in the midst of poverty. This song encourages them in their fight!

Offering for the Gondola Training Center to be Taken at Annual Conference

The Gondola Training Center (GTC) in Mozambique is a new educational center designed to train United Methodist lay leaders and pastors in theology, church leadership, development, microfinance, and sustainability. The GTC is strategically placed north of the Save River in Mozambique, which is an area that has experienced a distinct absence of educational opportunities and extreme poverty. After many years of investing in this center and sending numerous volunteers in mission teams who have helped with the construction of the GTC, we are very excited that the GTC has officially opened its doors! This offering at Annual Conference is dedicated to the continued support of the GTC and its students for the transformation of people and their communities toward the image of Christ.

Successful Launch of the GTC

During the March 2014 itineration, the MI was pleased to be a part of the opening of the Gondola Training Center, and participate in the teaching of the first cohort of students.

Email the MI at to find our more about sponsoring a student at GTC!
